Why the 65th Miss Universe is a pageant to remember

Royalty, fashion, politics, controversy, and 86 gorgeous candidates--the 65th Ms Universe pageant a night to remember.  Here’s why:

8 Queens under one roof
A total of eight (8) Miss Universe title-holders graced the beauty pageant including the reigning Queen. Those who lend their Miss Universe appeal were Gloria Diaz (1969), Margie Moran (1973), Dayanara Torres (1993), Sushmita Sen (1994), Natalie Glebova (2005), Riyo Mori (2007), and Leila Lopes (2011). Some of them sat as judges.

Steve Harvey’s back
Who doesn’t know Steve Harvey? The American host made a huge mistake on live TV last year when he announced Miss Colombia as the pageant’s big winner.  But, he rectified his mistake and proclaimed ‘confidently beautiful with a heart’ the rightful winner.  He made a comeback as main host for this year’s grand coronation night.  There was a cute moment at the final announcement. The reigning Miss Universe handed a reading glasses to Harvey just to make sure he won’t make the same mistake again.

Mindanaoan Designers and the Terno
Ten (10) local fashion designers from the Fashion Designers Guild of Davao got the break they so deserved.  They didn’t disappoint either. The delegates elegantly catwalked in gowns created by these artists during the preliminaries.

The pageant also put a spotlight on the Philippine Terno during a fashion show held at Calle Crisologo and Palza Burgos in Vigan.

Trump’s message to PDu30
The first message of American President Donald Trump to the Philippine President was coursed through Miss USA Deshauna Barber. President Trump, according to Miss USA, supports the Duterte Administration and extends his best regards.  President Duterte shared this information during his talk before the families of SAF 44.

To get or not to get an interpreter
Philippines bet Maxine Medina opted to have an interpreter onstage with her.  This is a first for the Philippines in this competition.  She did not, however, maximized the opportunity.

Queen P
The 2015 Miss Universe made us proud. She became the official ambassador for Aid for AIDS and appeared in several of its campaign. She also has been raising awareness for cleft lip/palate surgery for kids via Smile Train.

She also hosted the pre-pageant competitions proudly wearing gowns by local designers. At one of the Pageant’s Preliminaries, Queen P was a sight to behold in a hybrid barong and filipiñana.

Breaking beauty stereotypes
The pageant opened the discussion on what constitutes beauty.  Miss Canada Siera Bearchell hugged the spotlight prior to coronation night for standing up against body-shamers.  “How does it feel to be so much..larger than the other delegates?” A member of the media asked this question to Miss Canada during a press conference.

In her social media account, Miss Canada shared that the question left her almost speechless. ‘How does it feel to be myself? How does it feel to be confident in who I am?  How does it feel to fulfill my dream of representing Canada on the Miss Universe stage?  How does it feel to be a role model for so many young women who struggle to find someone to look up to?  How does it fee to redefine beauty?’-My answer-It feels great. #confidentlybeautiful #beautybeyond size #bodydiversity # missuniverse #misscanada @missuniverse’ she posted on her account.

Miss Canada made it to the Top 13.

An Underdog can win--Sushmita Sen

The big winner is not a crowd favorite.  It has happened before and it happened again.  “I’m a living proof of that.  Never was a hard favorite.  But hey, an underdog can win,” said 1994 Mis Universe winner Shusmita Sen. Thailand, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and even Brazil made all the buzz on social media and were in most people’s top list.  But, it was France who won the crown.

Nalungkot ako una kong marinig yung I Honestly Love You.

They Are Making A Come-back!!!

Whammos, jelly jooze, watchamacalliit, funwich, Tivoli ice cream, Eskimo pie, bubble cone pink with gumball at the bottom… I think i'd pass for a 90s kid.  :)  They said brands come and go, but I think brands, they fade because their most loyal customer base just grew up.  But, am sure the aging market will welcome with all their hearts and stomachs brands that will leave them nostalgic.   Like Whammos! Huwat?!!!!                                                              Whammos, a chocolate-filled cake slice that was a favorite of kids during the 90s, is back in the shelves.  Well, mostly you can find this chocolate fudge in 711 stores.  (This was first posted in the FB account July 9 this year :) ) Also making a comeback is Magnolia's twin popsies!!!!  The popsies come in orange and chocolate flavors!!

Magnolia Of My Childhood

When you buy Magnolia ice cream, you are reminded of your childhood…those times when a trip to Magnolia House means sharing a peach melba or a banana split with your brother or sister and “hating kapatid” means the older sibling will be getting the biggest portion for having the bigger stomach….when birthdays mean your parents are going to give away cups of ube, vanilla, or chocolate flavors to your classmates while they greet you in unison “happy birthday classmate, praise be Jesus and Mary!” and you feel like a star for a day…when mid-play you stop on the sound of that kuliling and run back to pester your nanay for a pinipig crunch, ice drops or those twin popsicles which you never ever got because they were expensive and for throwing a tantrum you have to fold all the clothes in the aparador…those times when you actually watched a TV ad curious to know the next flavor of the month... or when you saved money to buy a pint of your favorite flavor (mine was Choco Marble) then locked y
