An Excuse To Go To Puerto Princesa

People go to Puerto Princesa for many beautiful reasons—the beaches, the underground river, the cashew nuts, the seafood.  I went to Puerto Princesa to renew my passport J  The latest appointment in the capital was September last I checked.  I tried searching nearby provinces like Batangas, Pampangga and even Baguio and Legazpi but all were fully booked till September.  So I grabbed my best option—Puerto Princesa!  It’s also a great excuse to getaway from the toxicity of the metro.

I booked with AirAsia and the cost was just  PhP 3337.00 two way.  Lucky Me!!!! Hotel was also relatively easy to find.  I reserved mine through Expedia.com   Cheaper than the rates in Tripadvisor.  Well at least for this boutique hotel.  I booked 1 small room with a twin bed at Islands Stay Hotels Puerto Princesa.  It’s located at 420 Rizal Avenue, Brgy Bancao-Bancao in Puerto Princesa.  In truth I chose Islands Stay due to its proximity to the airport, it was just a short flight afterall.  But when I called the hotel for some instructions, I found out that the airport had changed locations.  But the hotel has a shuttle service that can pick people up from the airport.  So it became a non-issue.  Besides it’s also not that far from the new location of the airport.  I paid P852.24 for 2 nights so that’s a total of P1,878.34.

I left Manila Friday night, yes the flight was delayed.  Island Stays had a staff waiting at the arrival area with my name.  We boarded the van and got to the hotel in less than 10 minutes.  There was no traffic and the driver even obliged when I asked to do a sidetrip to a convenience store.

Checked in at the hotel where the staff were all nice and even helped me book a day tour for the next day.  The room was small—I mean they weren’t kidding. But it’s not that bad.  It’s just enough.  Maybe less than 9 square meters.  Bed was comfy, the aircon works perfectly, there’s complimentary bottle of water and toiletries. The bathroom was clean and the hot and cold water works!  Cable TV, room phone and a Bible.

Hunger pangs next.  Thanks Universe there’s a resto attached to the hotel.  EightyEight Resto.  The food ---superb!  The crew and the service---double superb!  Check out my meals below:

The only problem I faced with my stay at Islands Stay was the weak signal inside the room.  Otherwise, It was a pleasant stay.

I did what I had to do there, woke up early and headed to Robinson’s Mall to renew my passport with the DFA.  Then headed back to the hotel to freshen up for the afternoon tour.  I left early Sunday to Manila. Yes the flight was delayed :p

Nalungkot ako una kong marinig yung I Honestly Love You.

They Are Making A Come-back!!!

Whammos, jelly jooze, watchamacalliit, funwich, Tivoli ice cream, Eskimo pie, bubble cone pink with gumball at the bottom… I think i'd pass for a 90s kid.  :)  They said brands come and go, but I think brands, they fade because their most loyal customer base just grew up.  But, am sure the aging market will welcome with all their hearts and stomachs brands that will leave them nostalgic.   Like Whammos! Huwat?!!!!                                                              Whammos, a chocolate-filled cake slice that was a favorite of kids during the 90s, is back in the shelves.  Well, mostly you can find this chocolate fudge in 711 stores.  (This was first posted in the FB account July 9 this year :) ) Also making a comeback is Magnolia's twin popsies!!!!  The popsies come in orange and chocolate flavors!!

Magnolia Of My Childhood

When you buy Magnolia ice cream, you are reminded of your childhood…those times when a trip to Magnolia House means sharing a peach melba or a banana split with your brother or sister and “hating kapatid” means the older sibling will be getting the biggest portion for having the bigger stomach….when birthdays mean your parents are going to give away cups of ube, vanilla, or chocolate flavors to your classmates while they greet you in unison “happy birthday classmate, praise be Jesus and Mary!” and you feel like a star for a day…when mid-play you stop on the sound of that kuliling and run back to pester your nanay for a pinipig crunch, ice drops or those twin popsicles which you never ever got because they were expensive and for throwing a tantrum you have to fold all the clothes in the aparador…those times when you actually watched a TV ad curious to know the next flavor of the month... or when you saved money to buy a pint of your favorite flavor (mine was Choco Marble) then locked y
