Skatepark At Sommerset, Singapore

In 2013, while exploring the neighborhood near Mandarin Orchard Hotel in Singapore, I was lucky enough to find this hub for teens and kids. At the back of Orchard Road there is a Skatepark accessible via the Sommerset exit of their MRT. Here, kids / teens and the not-so-young converge to have fun with their skateboards, bikes or just by watching. I took this using my camphone. I felt my stomach churn I think because of envy. We don't have this kind of park around my area back home. Although, there's one now in Laguna or so I heard and in Manila. Still, I hope one day this would be a dime a dozen in the Philippines so kids/teens even the young at heart can enjoy. :)

Whammos, jelly jooze, watchamacalliit, funwich, Tivoli ice cream, Eskimo pie, bubble cone pink with gumball at the bottom… I think i'd pass for a 90s kid. :) They said brands come and go, but I think brands, they fade because their most loyal customer base just grew up. Nakaka blues naman... Para sa aming mga bata noon, simple lang ang buhay. Pag gising, may hilamos o wala, gagayak ka na sa panaderya. Bibili ka ng pandesal at mantekilya, kahit pupungas pungas pa. Bawal ang bumangon ng tirik na ang araw, at ang huling gigising ang siyang magliligpit ng banig, kumot at mga unan. Dahil sabado, pwede ka makinig ng radyo o manood ng TV. Pwede ka rin magpatugtog ng plaka. Isa si Olivia Newton John sa nagpaantig ng puso ko noon. Nalungkot ako una kong marinig yung I Honestly Love You. Isa yun sa maraming kanta na nirecord ko sa tape. Kasi noon, kung wala kang pambili ng songhits, ite-tape mo yung mga kanta, at pau-lit-ulit mong pakikinggan hanggang sa makabisa mo. Markado yung boses ni Olivia kaya naman nung lumabas yun Hopelessly Devoted at iba pang kanta sa Grease, laking pasalamat ko at nagka plaka kami nun pati nung Xanadu. May skating rink noon sa Luneta, swerte na napapasama ako sa mga ate ko noon. Tuwing tinutugtog iyun Xanadu, pakiramdam...

Magnolia Of My Childhood
